The snow finally melted enough to get busy around here. Even better Alan and Andy came home to help and the weather was perfect. We were able to plant 6 trees, work on the roof of the barn and installed tin around the inside walls. After cleaning up Andy cooked some awsome steaks. We made a good dent in it today!

Elk Hunt

BIG Black Bear. Will make a nice Bear Rug.

This was one of the three bunk houses at camp. Very nice accomodations!

Sharp knife makes a big difference! Working on my elk while the other guys were finishing the Bull Elk.

Nice to have heavy machinery to pick these guys up. The work continues.

Got em loaded and off the mountain. Celebration! Now it's on to camp with lot's of work to do.

It was 80 degrees on Tuesday- rained all night and was snowing Wednesday morning. We shot the Elk Wednesday morning. It was cold and wet! As you can see it was a good thing we had a winch on the Polaris.

It was quite a job getting these guys loaded up.

These are the other two Elk shot. All three were shot at the same time.

This was a BIG COW! It was no small feat getting the 3 Elk off the mountain and loaded up.

There is a new Red Raider Graduate in the house. This weekend we attended and enjoyed Andy's Graduation at Texas Tech University. This weekend was a milestone for Andy that Becki and I are very proud to be part of. It was wonderful to have our Families in Lubbock to help celebrate the occasion. I know Andy appreciated all the support yesterday and over the years leading up to this event. We are looking forward to see where it leads and to many more good memories.

If anyone has additional pictures we would love to see them.

I'm a little slow with this posting, but thats the way it is. Last weekend Vicki, Claire and Clint Poole flew into Amarillo to spend a weekend wih us. The weather was perfect which allowed us to enjoy all the outdoor activities. These included shopping for the girls, Gun Range and Golf for Clint and I as well as plenty of Jeeping for Clint and Claire. Everyone enjoyed the swimming pool, nice meals together and church.

Dash Splash

Took a break from painting and worked on my Jeep a little this weekend. I decided to shine up the Dash. Used a littel rubbing compound and it came to life. Really looks nice. The speedometer is not accurate because of the oversized tire so I decided to take the GPS with me to figure this out. (speedometer is 10 miles an hour slow) I was going to remove an old braket off the dash, but decided to use it. I had to do a little welding and fabrication, but now the GPS is mounted. It is neat because it has a compass and shows your speed both at the same time - not to mention a road map when needed. Also did some welding on the spare tire rack which solved a couple of little issues.

Progress on the Master bathroom is coming along nicely. Becki has been busy painting and I put up some new lights and towel racks. (New towels are coming). May even have an option besides green. Just in case you forgot I added a picture of the old look. Next...tile floors in both bathrooms.

Now that we are driving the jeep it is time for one of Becki's projects. We (Becki) has been stripping wall paper in our master bathroom. I don't know how we lived with this hideous paper for two years, but it is coming off. It is time to get rid of the "GOLD" fixtures also.

4th of July

This was a great 4th for the Bean's. Alan and Marie came up from Austin and Andy came up from Lubbock (TECH) to celebrate and visit. We all spent some time in Miami. We had a nice steak and visit with Mom and Charles. Late in the evening we went out North of town and enjoyed a perfect evening driving around in the pasture. Had to do some shooting of course and check out

Charles' new barn. Saturday was a fun filled day in Canadian - Parade, sight seeing, Movie, Rodeo, Fireworks and Dance. Canadian is looking great with lots of new businesses and homes. It is amazing how pretty it is once you get to Miami and Canadian! Photo courtesy of Marie Bean

This evening Gracie and I went on a ride to the creek. She really likes riding in the jeep and enjoyed playing in the water. When we got back I washed the jeep and Gracie. Becki even took the jeep out for a spin.

Winding down

The major work is done. Today I picked up the front drive shaft from A&I Driveline. Installed it this evening. The barrell or shaft was replaced because the original had a slight bend in it. Would have made for a little vibration. I had to mess with the speedometer cable as it was not working. Works now. Oh and I fixed the battery so it fits nice and tight.

The jeep starts and sounds great. Purrs like a kitten. I was thinking the exhaust system was going to need to be replaced, but with a little work it is nice and tight and sounds good. I messed with the 4-wheel drive this evening. It all seems to work fine. I did notice it doesn't fit the pattern on the shifter knob though. Probably not the original knob.

Yesterday I took apart the steering column to replace the key lock cylinder. Now that was interesting. It would be easy next time, but that first time - boy I wasn't for sure what I had gotten into. Notice the coyote call blinker knob. It was the first thing I found that fit and it stuck.

Also put the spare tire rack back on and fixed it so it didn't rattle. I think it looks better with the spare tire on the back.

Well, I believe I'm ready to get it inspected and hit the road or off-road.

Work on gas tank. Fuel gauge wasn't working

Well, I was looking forward to today all week as my plan was to start it up and drive it. I began with the fuel tank. It was in worse shape than I imagined. I will be ordering a new tank as this one is rusted bad inside and out. I patched a hole in the tank first thing and ground all the rust off the tank and skid plate. Once it was all repaired and painted I reinstalled it. I flushed out all the fuel lines and intalled new filters. Other than the fuel tank I had to finish mounting the clutch rod and the rest of the mechanism underneath. I wasn't satisfied that the distributor was installed correctly so I read my book and decided to turn it 1/2 turn and moved all the plug wires. (Good decision as it all worked.) Topped off the antifreeze checked everything over one more time and gave it a go. I had Becki turn the key, but we had minimal success as it only ran on the gas I was pouring in the carburator. I bought a new fuel pump and tried it again . BINGO it started and ran perfect. At 3:54 pm I had a smile on my face. Really sounded nice and smooth. I decided to finish a little project on the front disc brakes before the first test drive. I took it out for a short trip around the neighborhood and it started raining so I put it up for the day and cleaned the garage, put away all the tools and installed the passenger seat. Now I'm ready to detail the interior and work on other items as I have time. Im excited about taking it out and about. It really scoots around and is fun to drive! Saturday evening I ended the day with the installation of the transmisson, transfer case and exhaust. Today we started with Church then Becki took me to Furr's (reminds me of growing up) for Fathers day. This afternoon I worked on the jeep, but not at yesterdays pace. I enjoyed watching the US Open in the garage while I worked and Becki grilled some great burgers for dinner in the backyard. GREAT DAY!

Bean's Machanic Shop

Today the neighbors were saying "There goes the neighborhood". I had parts, pieces, motor-lift, transmission, trailer and tools scattered all over the place. I really didn't know where to start and changed my mind all morning; made three trips to the parts store and one to the car wash, but I finally got in a grove and didn't stop until I had the engine, transmission, transfer case and exhaust all reinstalled. It sure is a lot cleaner going back in then when I took everything out. See pictures for some idea of what's going on. I didn't take any pictures this evening, but all the main components are back in place. Tomorrow I hope to do a lot of the detail work on and around the motor. I probably could start it up tomorrow, but I want to take off the fuel tank and clean it out first. I'm further along than I thought I'd be. It's been an enjoyable day and I didn't even cut myself or mash a finger.

Today has been a while getting here. The engine rebuild was supposed to take 3 weeks, but you know how that works. As it turns out it was a good decision to rebuild the motor as the valves were in really bad shape and the head was cracked. I would have had one problem after another.

Now I'm ready to go! Block has been bored, new pistons and rods, new head, valves, turned cran, new cam shaft, and new metal valve cover, paint and a fresh look.

Now I'm excited about working on the jeep again.

Mothers Day

Mothers are special as you all know. Becki and I were able to go to Miami today to visit my Mother and Charles. We all went to church and it was great to see "The Church" the people that I know well. The Miami Volunteer Fire Department cooked ribeye steaks with the trimmings for lunch and a fund raiser. I was able to see even more home folk there. I miss the wide open spaces. You can meet God on those plains.

Sorry I didn't take any pictures, but it was a beautiful day across the Panhandle! Very green and it was wonderful being on the East side again.

Hope you were able to remember your Mother today. If she fills your heart like mine does you are good for another year.

After the gardening I was going to dive into this project. Plans are to detail and paint while the motor is out. Too late in the day to get that dirty so I played golf instead.

Golf weather could not have been better. I shot a 41-45 for a 86 total. I was happy with that!

Got home, grilled some chicken and called it a day.

First Roses

I picked a spot where the grass was not growing well and found out why. I unearthed some really big HARD rocks in this spot. Becki was not pleased with the location, but after the rock work I just couldn't change. Problem is they can't be seen from the upper yard. - That's why you stroll through the garden.

Today started with a busy morning. Mowed the yard, fertilized the yard, pulled the engine out of the jeep and did a little company consult in between.

Afternoon much more enjoyable! I played in a golf tournament with some other coworkers. We shot a 60 as a team and won 1st place. I really played well which always makes for a good day.

Becki and I just finished watching a beautiful Panhandle sunset on the porch with a glass of wine. It just doesn't get any better.

A little sad today learning that the Pearl is gone. Very happy that Alan was able to sell it before it caused any problems. Sure had some good hunting and golfing trips in the Pearl!
